In BUFA Executive, Collective Bargaining

The Brock University Faculty Association (BUFA) is the union representing full-time faculty and professional librarians at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario. BUFA is seeking to fill the position of Organizing and Mobilization Officer for a 6-month contract starting in October 2022 with opportunity for extension.

The successful candidate will work in a team environment and report directly to BUFA’s President and work directly with the Chief Negotiator.

Job description:

The primary role of the Organizing and Mobilization Officer is to support BUFA’s collective bargaining efforts as they relate to member organizing, engagement, and mobilization. The successful candidate will work with the union’s Contract Action Team to map the workplace, develop structure tests, and generally ensure that members are organized, engaged, and mobilized for the 2023 round of bargaining. Other duties may be assigned. Some on-campus work is required.

Qualifications:

  • a post-secondary degree or diploma;
  • experience in organizing and mobilization;
  • experience with unions and collective bargaining is an asset;
  • superior interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
  • strong digital technology skills and familiarity with social media;
  • the ability to work both independently with minimum day-to-day supervision

The 6-month contract comes with a salary of $30,000 – $40,000 commensurate with education and experience; a benefits package is provided.
